F.A.Q.
What about you and dolling ? |
I started dolling in April 2003 (I think), when I discovered the dolls on the All Fanarts forum (webmistress: Thémis). My first doll was a portrait of me and I lost it ^^; lucky me. The second one won the 1st place at the Magical Girls Contest on All Fanarts. And I made my way in the world of dolls, posting my creations on the Poupées Numériques Forum (where I met my sister Helewen), and after on Pixel Case. I stopped dolling in 2007. This site is kind of a souvenir for me now.
What's your dolling technique ? |
Software : Photoshop + Image ready + Graphic tablet (it helps
a lot !)
I have no particular technic to make dolls. I have favourites styles (gothic
and medieval, and Indian *__*) and I specially love killing my eyes with complicate
animations and talking dolls.
When I start a doll, I always do the clothes first. I do the outline pixel
by pixel with the pencil tool, or sometimes just some lines to guide the folds
of the skirts. Then I choose a pale colour and fill the clothes with the bucket.
Then, the shading technic depends on my mood : lazy = burn and dodge, in-and-motivated
= pixel shading. Since I am very often too lazy, you'll see that most of my
dolls are shaded with burn and dodge tools. Some people do not like that,
but that's their problem (lol).
The secret for shading pixel by pixel ? In fact, I'm not very precise for
dolling. I use the 3px pencil, and I change the opacity, so it shades progressively.
It's easy and gives lovely effects !
Conclusion : I use pure pixel art only for small dolls (no need for a wide
variety of colour tones), and, obvisouly, pixel art (see my layout ? lool).
Can I see your past layouts ? |
Of course...
